Prof. Dr. Wu treating Girl Muay Leading a meaningful lifeA meaningful life is worth living. But “meaningful” does not imply a life without conflicts, pain and suffering. Loss and failure are as much part of our life as new beginnings and success. In life, joy and pain often come together. The question is how to deal with this paradox.
From a cultural and social point of view, humans are born into a class system out of which they cannot, or only with difficulty, escape. Their status is defined by possession (poor, rich, underprivileged etc.) or by occupation: worker, employee or manager.
Persons severely disabled from birth, or through an accident or disease, also form a social class. They have to spend the remainder of their life, if not their entire life, in a hospital, a clinic or a home for the disabled.
The objective of THAI-HELP is to aid severely disabled children and adults as well as to support schools. Our goal is to change the living conditions of these people and thus improve their quality of life. Every human being is an individual, unique and beyond comparison. Anyone who has understood this fact can accept himself, and thereby finds his or her identity. What about those individuals, however, who are at least partially incapable of leading their own lives? We ask you: Have you ever thought about this? Have you ever imagined what your future would be like if you suddenly became bed-ridden or were bound to the wheelchair?
No one can protect himself from such a stroke of fate.
THAI-HELP has a visionWe of THAI-HELP have witnessed the misery of thousands of people in the northeast of Thailand. Their suffering is caused by all kinds of ailments and diseases, which afflict them regardless of age. Poverty and helplessness drive these people into despair and financial dependency. During the past months, our team has been directly confronted with this situation. We have ventured a first step and have been able to help people by providing medical treatment and by dealing with social problems. We wish to continue to help, because we have a vision for these Thai people. The first step on our way to fulfilling this vision is to define the objective we hope to reach, and thus set our course for the future. The second step is to choose the projects which lead to the fulfilment of our vision. The core objective of our vision is to evoke an urge to go forward; the wish and the will, the desire and the curiosity to engage in something new. |
